Blair School of Music presents Tessa Lark, Joshua Roman, and Edgar Meyer, Monday, October 7, 7:30 p.m., in Ingram Hall. This new collaboration of three artistically like-minded powerhouse virtuosos, each carving out their own niche in American music, tours together for the first time in a program including Bach and a new Edgar Meyer work written specifically for this tour.
This collaboration of three like-minded and powerhouse virtuosos, each carving out their own niche in American music, delivers an innovative program including the music of J.S. Bach and the world premiere of a new string trio by seven-time Grammy winner Edgar Meyer. With boundary-expanding and timeless music, synthesizing diverse influences and styles, both Meyer and Bach are known for the enduring impact of their artistry. Dynamic performers Lark, Roman and Meyer promise to bring fancy fiddling on the violin, cello and bass.
The Lark, Roman, and Meyer trio's joyful and virtuosic blend of genres, styles, and inspirations makes them an absolute must-see.
An exciting new collaboration brings together three singular figures in American concert music—virtuoso instrumentalists with fierce classical chops, deep connections to roots and fiddle music, and wide-open artistic sensibilities.
Perhaps today’s best-known bass virtuoso, Grammy-winner Edgar Meyer has built an extraordinary career—as a soloist with leading orchestras; a musical sparring partner with the likes of Yo-Yo Ma, Zakir Hussain, Joshua Bell, Chris Thile, and Béla Fleck; and an in-demand composer and recording artist.
Featuring genre-crossing violinist Tessa Lark and eclectic cellist Joshua Roman, this new collaboration of three artistically like-minded artists, will include works by Bach and Edgar Meyer.
Master of the upright bass and five-time GRAMMY® Award-winner Edgar Meyer is joined by two like-minded artists (Tessa Lark and Joshua Roman) to pluck and bow original contemporary compositions by Meyer paired with Bach favorites. These seemingly unlikely collaborations have become Meyer’s signature, making him a standalone among American classical musicians.
Experience a unique collaboration featuring three of the most distinguished figures in American concert music: Edgar Meyer, Tessa Lark, and Joshua Roman. These virtuoso instrumentalists merge classical mastery with deep roots in fiddle music and an expansive artistic vision.
This new collaboration of three artistically like-minded artists, each carving out their own niche in American music, tours together for the first time this season in a program including Bach and a new Edgar Meyer work, co-commissioned by the Lied Center. These fresh interpretations of existing and new music will be combined with some fancy fiddling on bass (Meyer), violin (Lark) and cello (Roman).
Early in his career, Meyer composed the series of three string trios, which he premiered with Daniel Phillips and Carter Brey at the Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival. These pieces set the tone for his next four decades, but only one was partially recorded. Meyer says that upon meeting Tessa and Joshua, he saw an opportunity to partner with them and “document this personal milestone”. At this concert, you will hear two of those string trios, a new one intended to “complete the thought,” and a classic Bach sonata.
Embark on a mesmerizing musical journey with the Edgar Meyer Trio featuring Tessa Lark and Joshua Roman.
This collaboration brings together three singular figures in American concert music—virtuoso instrumentalists with fierce classical chops, deep connections to roots and fiddle music, and wide-open artistic sensibilities. Bass virtuoso and recent Grammy winner Edgar Meyer, genre-crossing Kentucky-born violinist Tessa Lark, and eclectic cellist Joshua Roman take us on an exhilarating romp through selections by Bach, trio music by Edgar Meyer, and a brand-new work composed especially for this trio.
